What does the Effective Learning Service do?
The Effective Learning Service aims to assist all GCU students in improving their learning skills by providing appropriately tailored support.
The service is inclusive and we are committed to providing guidance that meets the specific learning and teaching needs of all students including international students and disabled students. It is free and confidential.
Effective Learning Tutors are available to provide assistance on a range of topics including:
Improving the quality of your written assignments
Referencing and grammar and effective writing
Critical Understanding in writing
Managing your time
Reading strategies and note-making
Revision and exam techniques
Oral presentations
English for academic purposes
How do I access the Service?
You can contact us by phone on 0141 273 1372 or via email: ELS@gcu.ac.uk. In addition, you can access a series of online guides, which may be of assistance to you.
What is available in an online appointment?
Requests can be made for handouts
You can seek clarification on any aspect of your study and a tutor will answer your enquiry
You can send us an essay or assignment by email to be reviewed by a tutor on the first available appointment. An ELS tutor will review your work and provide written feedback direct to your email.
Please send us your name and student id number when emailing your enquiry or work
We do NOT proof read for spelling or grammar. We can, however suggest proof-reading strategies in relation to language, style and structure. If you require proof-reading you should approach your department for assistance.
