Managing your library account

You can manage your library account online or by phone. You may need your PIN which is on My Caledonian under My library details, as is your library number. It isn’t possible to pay library fines online, but you can make payments by phone during the Library Desk opening hours.

Staffed services

The phone number for the Library Desk is 0141 273 1000. Check the opening hours first if you need to speak to a member of staff. If you are unable to get through, please keep trying. The Library Desk can be very busy and the phones can’t always be answered straight away.

Paying fines

You can pay your fines by phone during Library Desk opening hours. Phone 0141 273 1000 and select the option to speak to a member of staff. The minimum card payment is £8, or the full amount if your fines are less than £8. You can also renew your books, check your library account details or ask for information about library services. You can also pay your fines by cash using the two self service machines on Level 0.

How do I renew my books:

Renew online
  • Click Manage my Account in the My Library Account section of the library catalogue. Enter your library number or Student ID and your PIN (Personal Identification Number) and click Display User Information. The next screen will display all the items you have on loan. If your fines exceed £7.99 you are not allowed to renew your loans.
  • Click the All button (or tick the box beside the title you want to renew) and click Renew Selected Items.
  • Click OK in the popup window.
  • The next screen tells you which items have been renewed successfully. Check it carefully, especially if you have a lot of books on loan. You should print it so that you have a record of the new due dates.
  • Click OK at the bottom of the list of books renewed.
  • If you are finished, click Logout on the blue toolbar.

Fines are NOT displayed here; you can check them by clicking Review my Account in the My Account section of the library catalogue.

You are not allowed to renew if:

  • your fines exceed £7.99 (all accounts are blocked from borrowing or renewing if you have fines of £8 or more)
  • you have exceeded the maximum number of renewals allowed (5 times)
  • your library membership has expired
  • the book is on hold for somebody else.
Review account

Click Manage My Account in the My Library Account section of the library catalogue. Enter your library number or Student ID and your PIN (Personal Identification Number). Your account summary will be displayed.

The Account Summary is an overview of your library account. It includes only fines due on items you have returned or renewed (known as bills). Fines on items you still have on loan are shown under the Checkouts section. Like the Holds and Bills sections, this appears only when necessary.

Alerts: An alert that you are Flagged means you have overdue items or bills. You are still allowed to borrow and renew. An alert that you are Blocked means your fines or bills exceed £7.99. You are not allowed to borrow or renew until you pay.

Sections: The Checkouts section shows items you have on loan with due dates and any current fines on them. You can also renew your loans here. Remember that the fines you see here:

  • will keep increasing until you return or renew the items
  • are not included in the Account Summary until you return or renew the items.

The Holds section shows the items you have on hold and your position in the holds queue. Available holds can be collected from the self-collection near the Library Desk on level 0 of the Saltire Centre. You can cancel your holds; tick the box beside the title and press Cancel Selected holds.

The Bills section shows any previous unpaid bills. These are fines you incurred when you returned or renewed overdue items. Fines on overdue items that you still have on loan do not appear here. .

Renew by phone
